What is Invisalign?
Do you remember the big silver braces that orthodontists use to use?
Even the more trendier metal braces with colorful rubber bands seem to have faded into a thing of the past.
Though metal braces may be required for some patients who have more extreme cases, many patients find that the perfectly straight smile they are looking for can be obtained with the Invisalign system.
The Invisalign system uses a series of custom-made aligner trays for the patient’s teeth.
The aligners are made of smooth, clear plastic and are simply worn over the teeth.
A new aligner replaces the previous aligner every two weeks, or as recommended by the patient’s dentist.
The aligners will gradually and gently shift the patient’s teeth into place.
The process is discrete, painless, and hassle-free.
Because the Invisalign aligners are removable, they are easy to clean.
The patient can continue brushing and flossing their teeth without any special tools or considerations, whereas metal braces can be quite challenging to clean.
With metal braces, food becomes trapped in the brackets and wires, leading to plague build-up and tooth decay.
Also, the Invisalign system does not restrict the foods a patient can eat.
A patient with metal braces must steer clear of hard, chewy, sticky foods that can become trapped in their braces and brake the metal wires and brackets.
The level of comfort and convenience provided by Invisalign, in comparison to metal braces, is clearly superior.
While a mouthful of straight teeth are more aesthetically pleasing, straighter teeth are often healthier as well.
Gums can often become red and swollen when teeth are too crowded or widely spaced.
The gum fits more securely around the teeth when the teeth are properly aligned.
Straight teeth and securely fitting gums are a mouth’s strongest defense against potential periodontal diseases.
